Composer, Bass player
I am a media composer and a full-time professional electric bass player. My other instruments for playing live are piano and rhythm guitar. From 6th grade through college I played trombone, then switched to bass, which set me on quest for the “perfect groove’. Since then I’ve worked steadily in bands rotating as a side person, composer, arranger and leader. I’m fortunate to get calls for a wide variety of settings including pop-dance, big band, jazz, blues, salsa, tribute bands, recording sessions and musical theater productions. Many of these groups have hired me to transcribe music from recordings and create lead sheets, scores and instrumental parts.
As a composer I visualize live musicians playing my music with enthusiasm and having a great time. In the digital world I am fascinated by music technology and how it has expanded our creative potential and opened a new path to realizing artistic works.
In 2020 I was a guest on the Spotify podcast “You Heard Me Write”, Season 1, Episode 4. This was a collaboration piece along with essayist/theatrical director Ibi Owolabi and produced by Kacie Willis. My album, “Skyrise” was released in 2016 for which I composed and arranged my own music and created all the instrument parts for the recording session players.
For inspiration I make myself available for collaborations with friends, old and new, and I truly enjoy the camaraderie we share. I’m a big believer in happenstance and how it can brings magical experiences into your life. Let’s try it!
